We do lots of things aimed at meeting needs of different people.

Whether you want to meet people in your local area, find out more about the good news of Jesus Christ, or want to something to do with the kids, you're in the right place. Why not come along to one of our Sunday gatherings? We meet at 10:30 every Sunday morning, at E. R. Mason Youth Centre, Irving Street, Birmingham, B1 1DH.

Or perhaps you would like to find out more about why Jesus Christ is such good news for everyone? Why not come to one of our free courses to help you do that using the connect page?

Being a local refuge

In all that we do at The Gate Church we are committed to providing a safe environment for everyone. This is part of what it means for us to become a local refuge as a church.

The Gate Church is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (registered number 1171487) and the Charity Trustees take responsibility for safeguarding matters within the church and follow Charity Commission guidance regarding safeguarding.

In practice, this currently looks like:

1. Safeguarding Officers

Eleanor Deegan is our Safeguarding Officer – she takes responsibility for ensuring our church community and activities are safe for children and vulnerable adults. As part of her role she updates and implements our Safeguarding Policy, assists with the background checks of staff and volunteers, trains staff and volunteers in safeguarding, investigates any safeguarding issues that arise, and liaises with other agencies. Eleanor benefits from support from Christian Safeguarding Services in her role. You can contact Eleanor directly at safeguarding@thegatechurch.co.uk.

Eleanor is supported in her safeguarding responsibilities by Jonny Richards (Deputy Safeguarding Officer), who is one of the elders of the church. You can contact him directly at jonny@thegatechurch.co.uk.

2. Gate Kids team

We carry out DBS checks for our team of volunteers that work with children at our Sunday Gatherings and at other events we put on. We also provide training to ensure our team are familiar with best practice in relation to safeguarding.

3. DBS checks and training

We also carry out DBS checks for other staff and volunteers when appropriate for their area of service – for example, if they will have regular contact with vulnerable adults. We also offer regular training to all of our church members on safeguarding, as well as bespoke training to certain groups for their particular area of service.

4. Safe Church

We seek to make all of our ministries, events and relationships with one another at The Gate Church safe – whether big or small, formal or informal. We are currently working on policies and procedures to support this commitment. Our policy and procedures for dealing with and responding to any formal complaint that someone in our church has fallen below the standards we are committing ourselves to are set out in our Complaints Policy. If you want to record a safeguarding concern with us you can do so using this form or by emailing our safeguarding officers on the details above.
